Lynne Krayer-Luke is a freelance flutist and licensed Andover Educator (Body
Mapping specialist) residing in Newton, Massachusetts. She has been studying Body Mapping for
more than 10 years, and she has given Body Mapping seminars at the National Flute
Association Conventions in San Diego and Kansas City. She has also given a series of Body Mapping workshops at the
Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England; and, as a result, was
invited to give a seminar at the Alexander Technique Training School in Manchester,
England. Lynne’s Body Mapping
mentors have included Amy Likar (Andover Educator President), Lea Pearson
(author of Body Mapping for Flutists), and Barbara Conable (founder of
Andover Educators).
In 2006 Lynne went to the United Kingdom to complete a
master’s degree in music performance at the Royal Northern College of
Music. She was awarded the Pat
Barney Scholarship, and had the privilege of studying with Peter Lloyd (former
principal flutist of the London Symphony, and recipient of the National Flute
Association Lifetime Achievement Award).
While at the RNCM, Lynne was also tutored by Michael Cox (principal flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra),
Jo Boddington (piccolo specialist), Lisa Beznosiuk (baroque flute specialist),
and Anders Ljungar Chapelon (20th century
flute music specialist). Lynne played
in a wide range of ensembles while at RNCM. She played principal flute in the Concert Orchestras while
under the direction of Hansjorg Schellenberger and Baldur Bronniman. She also performed in the Chamber
Orchestra on piccolo, the Opera Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, and a flute,
bassoon, piano trio.
Lynne completed her bachelor’s degree in music performance
at the University of Northern Iowa, while under the tutelage of Angeleita Floyd
(author of The Gilbert Legacy).
Lynne was a recipient of the Floyd Flute Scholorship as well as the Jo
Hern Curris Award while at UNI.
With the Jo Hern Curris Award, Lynne was able to commission an
arrangement of Gunnar de Frumerie’s Pastoral Svit for solo flute with string
and flute ensemble, and fund a recital that featured her as the solo flutist
for the premiere of this arrangement.
During her studies at UNI, Lynne played principal flute in the Wind
Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Ensemble; she also performed with a
wind quintet. Lynne also taught a
small number of extremely successful flute students while in Iowa. All of her high school students were
selected to participate in the Iowa All-State Festival, and her elementary and
junior high school students were frequently featured soloists at their schools.
Throughout her flute studies,
Lynne has performed in numerous master classes for flute teachers such
as Liisa Ruoho, William Bennet, Jacque Zoon, Stephen Preston, Keith Underwood,
Robert Dick, and Tadeo Cohelo. All
of whom have influenced the way she plays and teaches.
In her free time, Lynne enjoys learning about movement
through other mind-body disciplines such as Alexander Technique, Rolfing,
Pilates, Gyrotonics, and Bikram Yoga. She also
enjoys learning about food, and cooking for her husband and close friends.
